ANDOVER, Mass. — A man has been seriously injured after crashing his car on I-495 in Andover.
Andover emergency officials responded to a serious crash at 1 p.m. Monday that forced them to temporarily shut down the highway.
Officials say a man in his late 20s was driving north on the highway when his car left the road, rolled onto its side before violently striking a tree. The man became trapped inside the vehicle as it became partially wrapped around the tree.
It took firefighters nearly one hour to extricate the driver.
A medical helicopter responded to the crash and transported the man to a Boston hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
