The deadline to be counted in the 2020 U.S. Census has arrived and federal, state and local officials are encouraging anyone who has not yet completed their census form to get it in now.
Oct. 15 is the last day census workers will be going door-to-door to count everyone living in the U.S. The deadline to submit the form online is Oct. 16 at 5:59 a.m. For those mailing in the form, it must be postmarked by Oct. 15., and if you are completing it by phone, the deadline is Oct. 15 at 10 p.m.
Census data, collected every 10 years by the U.S. Census Bureau, is used to determine how many representatives each state gets in Congress and how state and federal funding is distributed to local communities.
The deadline is two weeks earlier than originally planned following a Supreme Court ruling earlier this week.
