Mass. State Police Trooper dies unexpectedly

A Massachusetts State Police Trooper has died at the age of 40.

MSP posted on its Facebook page Monday evening that Trooper Patrick E. Ahl died unexpectedly at South Shore Hospital after suffering a medical emergency. Ahl would have turned 41 next week.

Trooper Ahl was assigned to State Police-Norwell since April after serving for State Police-Revere for nearly five years and State Police-Danvers for five-plus years before that.

Ahl graduated from the 79th Recruit Training Troop (RTT) in September 2006. Before joining state police, he served as a corrections officer for the Massachusetts Department of Correction. He served with the 772 Military Police Company of the Massachusetts National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan in 2003-2003.

He was raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1994.
