HARVARD, Mass. — A Massachusetts high school teacher is facing child pornography charges.
Federal officials say 26-year-old Warren Anderson admitted in Boston federal court Tuesday that he accessed websites and used the messaging app Kik to obtain child pornography.
In a probable cause affidavit written by Special Agent Joseph Iaccone, Anderson told federal agents who showed up at his house they must have been there "because of my internet activity."
Authorities say Anderson is a math teacher at Narragansett Regional High School, which serves the towns of Templeton and Phillipston.
"it’s shocking, it’s terrible - it’s not what we do," said Narragansett Regional High School Superintendent Christopher Casavant. "We’re educators. We take care of kids and folks like this who allegedly do these types of things, they’re not teachers."
Lelling's office said Anderson was arrested at a residence in Harvard as part of an ongoing investigation into the use of the online messenger Kik for exchanging child pornography.
The investigation stemmed from a report send by Canadian police alerting U.S. federal officials to child pornography having been sent via the Kik app.
The office said Anderson obtained videos of men sexually assaulting children between the ages of three and five years old.
Anderson faces one count each of receipt and possession of child pornography. He's been detained pending an Aug. 27 hearing.
