BOSTON — A not guilty plea has been entered on behalf of the man charged with kidnapping a young mother from a Boston nightclub.
Louis D. Coleman III, 32, was indicted last week by a federal grand jury on one count of kidnapping resulting in death. He waived a preliminary hearing last month and agreed to be held without bail.
On Tuesday, Coleman appeared front of a magistrate in Boston federal court wearing an orange jumpsuit with shackles on his feet and arms.
Outside the courthouse, Coleman's attorney would not stop to answer questions.
"Really wouldn't rather comment right now," said David Hoose, the public defender assigned to Coleman. "It was just an arraignment, that's all we can say - it's an arraignment just like any other case."
Supporters of the victim also left federal court without talking about the case.
Coleman, of Providence, R.I., is accused of kidnapping 23-year-old Jassy Correia from a Boston nightclub in February. Prosecutors say her body was found in the trunk of Coleman's car after it was stopped in Delaware four days after she disappeared.
If convicted, Coleman could face the federal death penalty.
