Malden teen hit, killed on Route 128 in Newton

NEWTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an 18-year-old man on Route 128 in Newton.

Massachusetts State Police say Reishaun Michael Hopkins of Malden was apparently crossing the eight-lane highway on foot at about 6:30 a.m. when he was struck by a car on the northbound side, thrown across the median into the southbound side, and struck again on that side of the highway.

Police say Hopkins was a worker at the Honey Dew Donuts located in the Newton rest stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed lanes on both sides of the highway, causing major commuter delays.

No charges were filed and police did not say why Hopkins was trying to cross.

The crash remains under investigation.
