Lowell man suffers life-threatening injuries after being pinned under equipment

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — A 30-year-old man sustained serious life-threatening injuries after being pinned under work equipment, according to Chelmsford Police Chief James Spinney.

Police and firefighters went to the area of 2 Alpine Lane shortly before 9 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a woman. She said she heard a man yelling for help, and when officials arrived they found the man from Lowell pinned between one of the arms of a skid-steer loader and one of its tires.

The landscaper is employed by Romero’s Landscaping out of Chelmsford.

Officials had to extricate the man to free him before he was taken to Lowell General Hospital. He was later transferred by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

A preliminary investigation shows that the man was operating the skid-steer alone and no other workers were on site.

Police are investigating the incident.
