Lowell man arrested on attempted murder charges

TEWKSBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Lowell man was arrested on attempted murder charges after assaulting his wife and her friend in a hotel room.

Nicholas Chappell, 45, with a last known address in Lowell, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, assault and battery (domestic), assault and battery, breaking and entering in the nighttime and malicious destruction of property over $250 in connection with an incident that happened April 2.

At about 10 p.m., Tewksbury police responded to the Motel Caswell for the report of a domestic disturbance involving assault, officials say. Once they arrived, police were met by a man whose face was bleeding. He told police that he was in a room with his female friend when her husband, Chappell, threw a rock through the window, which gave him access to the room. Chappell then assaulted the man. The man was able to escape from the room, but the woman was not.

Police found Chappell on top of the woman in the room with his forearm against her neck, officials say. Police believe that he was trying to strangle the woman. The officer fired a taser at Chappell and hit him in the back, causing him to release the woman.

Chappell was immediately taken into custody.
