Logan feeling furloughs with loss of 6 air traffic controllers

BOSTON — The impact of the shutdown is being felt at Logan Airport.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association says six controllers in Boston have been furloughed. But they add they are new to their jobs and have not yet been certified to work traffic on any positions.

That news came on the same day as the national union representing 61,000 pilots sent a letter to the president warning him that the government shutdown is threatening the "safety and security of airspace."

While air traffic controllers are getting furloughed, a record number of Transportation Safety Administration workers are calling in sick, making security lines at some of the nation's biggest airports soaring up to 90 minutes.
