WORCESTER, Mass. — Friends and family came out Sunday to mourn the loss of a young teenage girl who died in a crash Saturday night in Worcester.
“I still hear her voice,” said Jermaine, a friend of the girl who died. “I really can’t believe it, I can’t believe it at all, I really can’t, it just broke my heart, it’s something crazy.”
Jermaine says the girl who died was like a sister to him, and his cousin, who was also in that car, is still in the ICU.
“I don’t know how he’s looking tonight, but hopefully tonight we get some good news,” said Jermaine.
T. George Duplessis saw the aftermath of this horrific crash in Worcester.
He saw three cars smashed at the intersection of Main and Chandler Streets with a few people laying on the ground.
“I heard screeching tires and all of a sudden a big, loud crash, I came out my apartment and all the police cars and ambulances, everything was here,” said Duplessis.
Police say an officer noticed a stolen white SUV speeding around 9:30PM and tried to pull that driver over, but that driver refused to stop and drove off erratically, so the officer stopped the pursuit.
Then about 20 minutes later police found that white SUV wrapped around a street light pole with two other cars.
Three people were ejected from that SUV.
“It’s terrible, it’s terrible, it bothers me, it’s upsetting me to see this,” said Duplessis.
Police say five people were in that white SUV, and they were all 18 or younger.
Police believe they were speeding through a red light without their headlights on when they hit two oncoming cars.
“I’m just really sorry for the families who lost and hope everybody survives this who’s in the hospital now,” said Duplessis.
Police say the girl who died was the passenger of the SUV, while the four others are recovering from serious injuries in the hospital.
Worcester police say no one was seriously hurt in the other two cars involved in this crash.
Police say this is an ongoing, active investigation and no charges have been filed at this point
