NEWTON, Mass. — A wrong-way driver is facing charges after a crash early Saturday morning that caused a tractor-trailer to go up in flames, according to State Police.
Police said they received a call from a motorist just after 3 a.m. saying a wrong-way driver was traveling west on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Newton.
The operator of the vehicle suffered minor injuries after hitting a tractor-trailer when traveling the wrong way. Responding Troopers reported the tractor-trailer was up in flames as a result of the crash.
Firefighters had to cut the truck into sections so it could be removed. Cleanup efforts are still underway as they work to remove all the debris from the burnt truck.
The wrong-way driver is facing charges but police have not released what the charges are.

A large portion of the MassPike remained closed throughout Saturday. Massachusetts State Police tweeted that all the lanes on the eastbound side of the highway were open just before 4:30 p.m.

All recovery efforts are complete and all lanes are open.
