BROCKTON, Mass. — A woman has sustained serious injuries after a crash involving a bus in Brockton.
According to Brockton police, officers received a call around 12:44 p.m. after a Brockton Area Transit Authority bus hit a pedestrian at 140 Colonel Bell Drive, outside the Sullivan Tower apartments.
The 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair sustained severe injuries to her leg but first responders applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Brockton police said she is in stable condition and expected to survive.
The crash happened outside a complex for elderly residents and people with disabilities.
Neighbors told Boston 25 that they have had close calls with buses near this same spot.
“They got to do something about these bus drivers. They do drive kind of crazy. They’re very impatient,” said Jim Gallagher.
“You got to be careful walking. It’s scary because they come through here and there’s mostly elderly and handicapped,” said Sheree Johnson.
The incident is under investigation but police say no charges are expected to be filed.
The MSP Accident Reconstruction Team assisted with the crash investigation.
