TYNGSBORO, Mass. — A 29-year-old Tyngsborough woman was killed Thursday morning when a devastating fire swept through her Fletcher Drive home.
The fire broke out shortly before 9:30a.m. when a man who is confined to a wheel chair and who lives in a separate structure on the property called 911.
The man later identified himself to Boston 25 Reporter, Bob Ward as the victim’s stepfather and said that when he saw the flames he first called 911. Then he began throwing rocks at the windows in an attempt to wake up his stepdaughter.
When firefighters arrived, thick, black smoke was billowing out of the home, but first responders made their way to a bedroom where they found the victim.

“They were rendering aid,” Tyngsborough Police Chief Richard Howe said. “The female was not conscious at that time. The female was transported to the hospital. She has been declared deceased.”
Tyngsborough Fire Chief Wes Russell told Boston 25 it was difficult, at first, for crews to reach the victim.
“It was very tight in the house. It’s a small home. There was a lot of furniture so there was bit of a challenge getting to the victim. But they were able to get her out pretty quickly,” Chief Russell said.
The victim lived inside the house at 24 Fletcher Drive with her mother who had left the home for work, shortly before the fire began.
The victim’s stepfather said his stepdaughter worked overnight at a security job and was likely sleeping when the fire broke out.
Two dogs and a cat were also killed in the fire.
Animal control was on scene recovering a pony from the property
Neighbor John Smith remembered the victim as a kind soul who deeply cared for her pets.
“She was a very kind girl, always said hi. She loved her animals she loved life,” Smith said.
The victim’s name has not been made public as authorities are still trying to notify other family members.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
