Woman injured in Lakeville kitchen fire

LAKEVILLE, Mass. — A resident of a Lakeville apartment complex was injured when a fire broke out in her kitchen.

The Lakeville Fire Department said the fire started when a pan of oil was left unattended on the stove. The woman tried to put the fire out with water, but it flashed, injuring her and damaging the apartment.

A Lakeville police officer driving in the area heard the alarm and alerted the fire department. He went inside the apartment to investigate, triggering the building’s alarm system and prompting an evacuation of all residents.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 4:15 p.m. and brought the fire under control. The woman was taken to the hospital with burn injuries.

Her injuries are non-life-threatening.
