BOSTON — Seven stories of scaffolding came crashing down on St. Alphonsus St. in Boston’s Mission Hill neighborhood late Monday night.

The scaffolding collapsed at an apartment building under construction at 95 St. Alphonsus St.

“There’s no injuries, there’s no damage to this particular structure,” said Boston Fire Chief Pat Nichols. “There is a significant amount of debris in the street adjacent to this building and the backyard of this building, the pool and whatnot.”

Fire crews blocked off the area to keep tenants who live in the apartment building next door safe.

“We’re just making sure that the building is safe, that the tenants are safe, and that there isn’t any further dislodging of scaffolding that might cause some injuries,” said Nichols. “We’re going to tape it off, we’re going to make sure the people stay away from it, we’re going to make sure people stay away from the windows on that side just to make it safe.”

Crews said it was lucky no one was around when the scaffolding collapsed.

“Because it was night and it was cold, people weren’t anywhere near it when it fell,” said Nichols. “It’s very fortunate nobody was hurt. It could’ve been a lot worse if there was anybody around, including construction people that might have been working in and around that building, so we’re very fortunate that nobody was hurt.”

Nichols said crews secured the area but can’t start the clean-up process until Tuesday morning when the sun is up and the winds die down.

“It’s just too dangerous right now,” said Nichols.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
