BOSTON — A traveler passing through security at Boston’s Logan Airport was recently caught with an unusual item that happens to double as a weapon.
Security agents stopped a 26-year-old man on Sunday after they spotted a titanium “vampire straw” in his luggage, according to TSA New England.
Vampire straws are most commonly used to drink thick shakes and smoothies, but they are also long enough to be used like a dagger, according to a website that sells them. The straws are also marketed as a “very effective” tire deflator.
State police were notified of the discovery and troopers confiscated the straw.
The traveler in question was hit with a state charge for possessing the banned travel item.
In a tweet, TSA New England wrote, “#travelfail.”
Many sharp objects are only allowed in checked travel bags, according to the TSA.
