Kraft will address the coaching shakeup during a 1 p.m. news conference at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
The Patriots announced Mayo’s firing after Sunday’s season-ending victory over the Buffalo Bills, which caused the team to lose their number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt was also fired.
In a prepared statement issued immediately after news of the firing broke, Kraft said that fans of the Patriots deserve better than the 4-13 effort the team put forth in Mayo’s lone season as sideline boss.

“We have tremendous fans who expect and deserve a better product than we have delivered in recent years. I apologize for that. I have given much thought and consideration as to what actions I can take to expedite our return to championship contention and determined this move was the best option at this time,” Kraft stated.
Names are already being tossed around as the team’s next potential head coach including Mayo’s former teammate, Mike Vrabel, and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Mayo was named head coach of the Patriots in January 2024 after the team parted ways with longtime coach Bill Belichick.
