Video shows cruiser driving Boston Mayor Michelle Wu appear to cause crash after running red light

BOSTON — The Boston Police Deptartment is investigating a car crash involving Mayor Michelle Wu on Tuesday, according to city officials.

Video obtained by Boston 25 News shows a police cruiser with activated lights, carrying the Mayor attempting to make a left turn onto Hyde Park Ave. The video shows the lights on Hyde Park Ave. are green and the Mayor’s driver makes a left off of Blakemore St.

You can see in the video at least one vehicle stops as Wu’s vehicle emerges into the intersection. A second vehicle traveling on Hyde Park Ave then collides with Wu’s vehicle. The vehicle is carrying a mother and a child, a source tells Boston 25.

“We can confirm the mayor was a passenger in a vehicular crash earlier today. Thankfully no one sustained any major injuries. The Boston Police Department will conduct an investigation of the incident as they do with all crashes involving departmental motor vehicles,” the city said in a statement.

A neighbor sent photos to Boston 25 showing the aftermath of the crash involving Mayor Wu. They show Wu consoling the mother and child of the other vehicle involved before they were evaluated by EMT’s.

The crash remains under investigation.
