Victim in deadly New Hampshire fire identified

DEERING, NH — The person killed in a fire that tore through a home in Deering, New Hampshire Saturday has been identified.

Richard Berger, 72, was pronounced deceased after crews responded to a single-family home on Hart Farm Road engulfed in flames around 9:19 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, crews from Deering, Hillsboro, Bradford, Mont Vernon, Henniker, Hopkinton, Washington, Weare, Antrim, Francestown, New Boston, Goffstown and Bennington found heavy fire coming from the home.

Berger was found dead inside the home. Another adult male who was initially trapped on the second floor when the fire started, was assisted out of the home by a neighbor and transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and Deering Fire & Rescue is the cause of the fire.
