BOSTON — Two men died following a shooting in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood Saturday night.
Boston Police were called to Dedham Street around 9:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.
Officers arriving to the scene found a deceased man inside a car suffering from a gunshot wound. A second victim walked into Milton Hospital with a gunshot wound a short time later and died from his injury, according to police. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirms that both men were in their 20s.
A woman who lives on the street told Boston 25 News police officers had to escort her back to her house as she was returning home.
“He [the officer] just said, ‘OK don’t freak out, it’s bad!’ and there was a car directly behind my car here and there was a body hanging out of the driver seat,” said Cynthia McClaren, who lives across the street from where the man was shot and killed. “They had it covered, but it took them, it was about 10:45 and they didn’t get everything cleared out until about 1:30, 2 o’clock in the morning.”
McClaren said she saw police combing the woods near the crime scene.
“They were focusing on the woods here shining lights,” said McClaren. “They had a dog, so I think they are pretty sure that somebody went off into the woods.”
Other neighbors told Boston 25 News they heard about six gunshots ring out.
“I heard what I thought was banging on the window, it was like bam bam bam bam,” said Joseph Baggs. “Honestly, I didn’t sleep that well last night. I was in the line of fire which is not fun. I’m just glad nothing hit my house, nothing hit my dad.”
Neighbors said the dead end street is typically very quiet and safe.
“This is such a quiet, quiet, lovely little area,” said McClaren. “It’s very shocking.”
“There’s a lot of old people who live here and good people and I’m like why would you do this on this kind of street,” said Baggs. “This is good, like honest people who don’t deserve to be shot at.”
Police have not said if they’ve arrested any suspects or anything about what led up to the shooting.
