Two-alarm fire leaves Norton home uninhabitable

NORTON, Mass. — Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a home in Norton on Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to a two-family home on Charlotte Avenue around 4:47 p.m. They were met with “heavy fire” coming from the back of the home, according to Norton Fire Chief Shawn Simmons.

Crews called for a second alarm due to the high volume of flames and intense winds.

Firefighters from Mansfield, Easton, North Attleboro, Attleboro and Taunton assisted at the scene, bringing the fire under control within 30 minutes, Simmons said.

One person inside the home was able to safely get out on their own. No injuries were reported.

Building and electrical inspectors determined the building to be uninhabitable, Simmons said.

Displaced residents are being helped by the American Red Cross.
