BOLTON, Mass. — Two Dracut men have been arrested for attacking and seriously injuring a truck driver with a hammer in an alleged road rage incident on Interstate 495 on Monday.
Javier Gutierrez Vargas, 23, and Juan E. Marin, 28, were both charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a single count of disorderly conduct. Both men posted bail. They will be arraigned in Clinton District Court.
The truck driver, a 28-year-old Maine man, suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said. The victim was attacked while he was pulled over in the breakdown lane in Bolton on Monday afternoon.
Police said they responded at 1:58 p.m. Monday to a report of an assault with a weapon.
Investigators said the truck driver was struck with a hammer by the two men, who had been in a Volkswagen GTI Hatchback, before the two men left and police arrived.
Gutierrez Vargas and Marin were both found in Marlborough, where they were stopped by Marlboro Police and taken into custody, police said. One of the two men was treated at a local hospital for unknown injuries. The victim was taken to another hospital.
State Police also said a woman was in the car, but she was not charged.
