Trans social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney posted a video online addressing her controversial partnership with Bud Light for the first time today.
A few months ago, Mulvaney posted a photo featuring a Bud Light can with her face on it. This promotion led to boycotts of Bud Light, resulting in it being dethroned as America’s top selling beer.
In a video posted on her TikTok and Instagram, she addresses the backlash she received as a result from the partnership.
“For months now, I have been scared to leave my house,” says the influencer, “I have been ridiculed in public, I have been followed, and I have felt a loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
Mulvaney also addressed Bud Light’s response, saying that Anheuser-Busch did not reach out to her after the controversy began.
She also emphasized how the response to her and Bud Light’s brand deal has “serious and grave consequences” for the trans community.
“Supporting trans people, it shouldn’t be political,” Mulvaney states. She also promotes organizations that are working to advance trans rights.
“It’s still Pride month,” Mulvaney continues, “so I’m gonna celebrate being alive, and I’m gonna celebrate the trans people in my life, and the ones I haven’t met yet, and I’m gonna celebrate the fact that no matter how many thousands of horrible messages, or news anchors misgendering me, or companies going silent, that I can look in the mirror, and see the woman that I love being.”
