BOSTON — The train connecting Boston and Cape Cod will return for its 10th summer season Memorial Day weekend.
CapeFLYER will offer round trip service between Boston’s South Station and the Cape on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day.
The first train of the 2022 season departs Boston’s South Station Friday, May 27 at 5:42 p.m. The train will be free to active-duty service members or veterans on Sunday, May 29 through a partnership with Cape Cod Cares for the Troops.
“We are pleased to once again offer this popular summer service in partnership with the CCRTA, the MBTA and MassDOT to provide a traffic-free alternative for visitors to and from Cape Cod,” said Abdellah Chajai, general manager and CEO of Keolis, the MBTA’s operating partner, said in a statement. “By taking the train, passengers can enjoy the scenery along the way and make the most of their summer weekends on Cape Cod.”
CapeFLYER stops in Braintree, Brockton, Middleboro, Wareham, Buzzards Bay and Bourne, ending in Hyannis. A round-trip ticket from South Station to Hyannis is $40, and children 11 and under ride free with a fare-paying adult. The schedule is also returning to a later departure on Friday evenings, allowing workers to have time to catch the train.
Dogs and bikes are allowed on board. The train will have a bicycle car with racks for close to 50 bicycles, and a tool kit for passengers to use to give their bikes a tune up during the ride.
Hy-Line will accommodate the 8:20 p.m. Hyannis arrival, so passengers can catch the last boat to Nantucket at 8:40 p.m. Steamship Authority shuttles will meet all trains at the Bourne stop to take passengers to the docks at Woods Hole.
No reservations are required, and other Cape destinations can be accessed through the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA).
Tickets are available now on the mTicket app and will be available for purchase at the MBTA Commuter Rail ticket offices at South Station, North Station and Back Bay station the week prior to Memorial Day. Blonde on the Run Catering will operate a café car selling food, beverages, beer and wine.
For prospective day-trippers, a $20 round-trip ticket for same-day travel on Sundays will be offered again this summer. Those tickets are available for purchase on the mTicket app but may not be bought on board. Customers may also purchase a 10-ride pass for the price of eight using the mTicket app.
In addition to Memorial Day, CapeFLYER trains will run on June 20, July 4, and Labor Day.
