BOSTON — History buffs, take note: Hulu has released the trailer for the film “Boston Strangler” about the notorious serial killer who terrorized the Boston area in the 1960s.
Actors Chris Cooper and Keira Knightly star in the film, which is produced by Ridley Scott and is set to be released next month.
“An all-star cast has gathered to tell the tale of the one of the most notorious serial killers in American history and the two women who risked it all to try and unmask the murderer and reveal the truth,” according to the Motion Picture Association.
Knightley stars as Loretta McLaughlin, a local newspaper reporter who suspects that three women who were strangled over a three-week period in Boston might be connected, according to the association. Cooper plays her newspaper boss; when she approaches him about her theory, he tells her: “You’re on the lifestyle desk, you’re not covering a homicide.”

McLaughlin continues to work the story with her colleague Jean Cole, played by actress Carrie Coon. The two female reporters face pushback from forces that “include a defiant Boston Police Department, the rampant sexism of the era, and the case’s peculiar twists and turns,” according to the association.
Boston Strangler arrives on Hulu on March 17.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
