Martha's Vineyard, Mass. — Oak Buffs Police Department responded to a crash that turned scary when a car overturned and submerged into Sunset Lake.
On Thursday, December 12, police overheard what sounded like a crash in the vicinity of Our Market. When observing the noise, police found a broken telephone pole and a car overturned and submerged into water.
The officers found a 31-year-old female on the shoreline and a 35-year-old man trapped in the vehicle. The males feet were trapped under the vehicle, but he was alerting the officers about his unconscious mother in the back seat.
Officers immediately went into the knee-deep water to render aid. They cut away the air bags to get to the 60-year-old mother, but noticed that she had no pulse and was not breathing. Officers began CPR until they were relieved by EMS. Oak Bluffs Fire Department used the jaws of life to save the male.
Both the 31 and 35-year-old were transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The 60-year-old mother to both of the occupants was air-lifted to Brigham and Women’s where she remains in critical condition.
Initial investigations believe that speed and alcohol were associated to the cause of the crash.
