‘That used to be me’: WooSox player notices kid practicing in yard, gifts free bat

WORCESTER — A young ballplayer received an assist from a pro that has been in his shoes before.

WooSox player Ryan Fitzgerald shared a Tiktok video of him surprising a youngster practicing in his front yard.

After stopping his car, Fitzgerald first asks the kid if he likes baseball, then if he’s ever heard of Fitzgerald.

“That’s me,” says the 29-year-old minor leaguer. “You want a bat??”

After handing over the free bat, Fitzergald also tells the child to shoot him a DM on Instagram, promising him tickets to a future WooSox game.

“I saw you out here swinging,” Fitzgerald tells the child. “That used to be me as a kid.”

Fitzgerald has his own line of clothing in partnership with the WooSox.
