REVERE, Mass. — Broadway Circle in Revere was shut down all day Wednesday after a tanker truck rolled over, spilling 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel in front of the Sunoco gas station.

The driver of the truck told Boston 25 News reporter Kelly Sullivan on scene he had just started his shift and was on his way to Barre. He said he tried to downshift as he approached the roundabout on Squire Road in Revere.

The driver was shaken up but is OK.

Coast Guard and DEP were called in to help with the cleanup. An extensive clean-up was needed as some of the fuel spilled into nearby waterways. By 9 a.m. the tanker was removed, but delays continued.

According to MassDOT, the Brown Circle rotary reopened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to Route 60 eastbound and westbound traffic. The area from Route 107 to the rotary remained closed. Crews were expected to begin milling and paving the area where the crash damaged the road at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Just after 10:30 p.m., MassDOT announced that repairs to the damaged road were underway and that they anticipated all lanes to be open by the rotary for Thursday morning’s commute. The final paving is expected to be completed this weekend.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
