DUBLIN, NH — Severe weather that National Weather Service spotters reported as spawning a tornado in New Hampshire’s Cheshire County left a trail of debris behind Thursday.
Campers and staff at the Walden School Summer Camp in Dublin told Boston 25 News lights started flickering as the weather kicked into high gear. Less than a minute later, trees around them came tumbling down as wood panels and other debris swirled in the campus quad.
“We could hear the wind through the building,” said Lucas Blohm. “It was terrifying. There’s little kids and there were people shaking and having panic attacks and stuff.”
The high-velocity wings began so suddenly, children and staff only had moments to take cover. Outdoor furniture was hurled hundreds of feet as window panes shattered and trees buckled and snapped.
“There were things that were hitting the building, like big panels of wood from other buildings being thrown around,” added Blohm. “We knew it was time to like get in the basement and then we came out and there was all this wreckage everywhere.”
West down Route 101, those in the small town of Roxbury experience more damage from the reported twister. Parked cars were impaled by tree limbs and roofs were damaged by the swirling debris.
“As we’re coming back, we see this which is just incredible and you know a lot more has happened than just here,” said Larmon. "
The cluster of felled trees at Marlborough Auto Sales caught the attention of spectators passing by. Those who experienced the forceful winds told Boston 25they had never felt anything like it.
“The wind was just whipping around trees you could hear trees cracking,” said Russell. “I was just worried that it didn’t hit the house. I couldn’t care about anything else in the yard just as long as the house and my dogs are okay.”
The National Weather Service will travel to Dublin Friday morning to survey the damage and determine whether the chaotic wind was in fact a tornado.
No one has reportedly been injured by the wild weather.
