BOSTON — Authorities are alerting the public following reports of a person impersonating a detective in a human trafficking scam that tries to extort money from victims.
According to Boston Police, several individuals have come forward, saying they’ve been contacted by a person claiming to be a detective from the Boston Police Human Trafficking Unit.
The scammer reportedly tells the victims they’ve been visiting commercial sex websites and demands money to avoid any legal trouble for the victim.
If you or someone you know has been a victim of this type of crime, you’re asked to report the incident to the Boston Police Department.
