BOSTON, Mass. — People are already on the move before the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Airlines like Delta have announced they will waive all change fees over the weekend to help people navigate cancelations.
Inside Terminal C at Logan Airport, travelers were lining up for a busy holiday weekend. “The line is pretty brutal and this is just to drop the luggage off,” said a passenger, “there is not enough help is the problem so they are backed up.”
AAA predicts more than 3.5 million people will move by air to get somewhere for the Fourth of July. “Travel volume has picked up quite a bit at all the airports across New England and across the country,” said TSA New England Spokesperson Dan Velez. TSA says it is fully staffed for the extra volume but screeners are urging people to help streamline wait times by having IDs ready and putting all loose items in their bags. “Putting those loose items in your carry on bag will definitely help,” said Velez.
The other factor that could cause more travel volume is the 4th of July holiday is timing out to make a long weekend. “I’m just trying to make it so I’m organized as possible,” said a traveler.
It’s definitely clear more people are on the move this Fourth as they head to their destinations to celebrate Independence Day. “I think people are anxious to travel and go anywhere they possibly can,” said a traveler.
AAA expects the busiest travel days to be Thursday and Friday.
