MEDFORD, Mass. — The MBTA announced Tuesday that all new Red and Orange Line trains will be pulled out of service.
An out-of-service car experienced a battery failure in the Wellington Yard early Monday morning, according to Lisa Battiston, a spokesperson for the MBTA.
Out of an abundance of caution, the T pulled every new Orange and Red Line train cars from service while engineers work to determine the cause of the failure.
This comes a day after new schedule changes have created longer wait times for passengers and a week after a scathing Federal Transit Administration report on the lack of safety at the MBTA.

The FTA found the MBTA to be short-staffed to the point where the trains were not safe for riders. The T says it has launched a recruitment campaign, offering bonuses to hire more workers.
The lighter schedule makes for safer staffing levels, but with fewer trains.
Now with this latest hitch, there will be fewer cars in service to sustain the summer crowds.
