BOSTON, Mass. — The MBTA announced Tuesday afternoon that Orange Line service between North Station and Back Bay Station will resume, effective immediately.
The T ran a comprehensive inspection of the Orange Line infrastructure this week and also ran a test of trains in the tunnels following this weekend’s garage collapse.
However, trains will continue to bypass Haymarket Station in both directions until further notice.
For Haymarket Station bus riders, Routes 111, 426, and 450 will return to Haymarket Station with the resumption of Orange Line Service. Additionally, Routes 92 and 93 have already returned to Haymarket.
Green Line service between North Station and Government Center will remain suspended, with the shuttle bus service connecting the two stations ending tonight as well. The MBTA says Orange Line services will provide a faster alternative for Green Line shuttle bus riders.
Customers can make underground transfers to the Orange Line at both North Station and Park Street Station if need be.
Structural engineers continue to an extensive assessment of the tunnels used by Green Line trains given that most of the debris from the partial garage collapse came down directly above the Green Line. MBTA personnel continue to work jointly with accident investigators and the developer’s debris removal team to ensure a swift cleanup.
Orange Line customers who intended to use Commuter Rail services should note that, beginning at the start of service tomorrow, CharlieCards will no longer be accepted on board the Commuter Rail and fare payment will be required for access.
Extra MBTA personnel and Transit Ambassadors will continue to be on hand to assist customers this week.
