Lots of laughs and a few tears at the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Breakfast in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. — Hundreds packed the ballroom at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Breakfast Sunday.

It’s a time when politicians have the freedom to crack a few jokes.

Senator Nick Collins hosted the event and took a few digs at Governor Charlie Baker in a song to start the event.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu reflected on her first 100 days in office with a few jokes.

“This past winter was pretty intense, trial by snow, trial by firefighters union,” said Mayor Wu. “I’m getting used to dealing with problems that are expensive, disruptive, and white – I’m talking about snowflakes, snowstorms, snowflakes!”

She says it hasn’t been easy waking up to protestors outside her home.

“They’re banging drums, blowing whistles and shouting on their megaphones that I have to stop being a woke millennial,” said Mayor Wu. “I agree, at the crack of dawn I’d much rather be a sleeping millennial.”

Mayor Wu went on to say she’s still tired from the time change last week.

“I will say though jumping forward an hour isn’t easy, but it is better than Geoff Diehl’s proposal that we make him governor and set us all back 50 years,” said Mayor Wu.

Gov. Baker kept the jokes to a minimum after a tough two years dealing with this pandemic.

“Despite the brutality and the trauma and the disruption and the isolation and all the other stuff that came with this very challenging and at times tragic time, you folks were good to each other,” said Governor Baker.

He got a little emotional at his last Saint Patrick’s Day Breakfast as governor since he’s not seeking re-election this year.

“I wish you all nothing but happiness, health and no more God damn covid as we go forward,” said Governor Baker.
