BOSTON — Health officials announced on Tuesday that COVID-19 cases in Boston and Suffolk County continue to drop as the area braces for winters end.

According to the CDC, Suffolk County is now at “low community level”, a status it hadn’t achieved since early January. Similarly, the Boston Public Health Commission says the amount of new COVID-19 cases in the city per day have decreased by 36% over the past two weeks, and the city’s wastewater coronavirus levels have remained stable.

Despite the positive news, officials are urging residents with high risk of severe illness to take precautions.

“The downward trends that we have noted are encouraging.” said Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Commissioner of Public Health and Executive Director of the Boston Public Health Commission. “However, COVID-19 is unpredictable and continues to have a disproportionate impact within communities throughout Boston and among individuals who are vulnerable due to underlying illness and immunocompromise.”

Officials say indoor masking is an effective way to decrease the risk of coronavirus transmission and receiving booster shots.

“We urge Boston residents to get boosted and to utilize the free vaccination and testing resources available throughout our city,” Dr. Ojikutu said.

The following places in Boston provide residents with free access to Bivalent boosters, primary COVID-19 shots, COVID-19 testing and flu shots, with a chance to win $75 gift cards and at-home testing kits:
