CHELSEA, Mass. — Driving by Marginal Street in Chelsea, you may notice the salt pile doesn’t quite look the same. What was once a robust mountain top of mineral, is now down to a singular mole hill.
With this weekend’s weather calling for more snow, MassDOT says fear not, there’s enough salt to go around.
“[We’re] currently at 70 percent capacity for our statewide salt supply,” according to a spokesperson.
Eastern Minerals, who own the salt pile, say that although the stack looks a bit smaller this time of year than in years past, they are prepared.
“We had a shipment come to our Quincy stock pile, which will help us this weekend,” a spokesperson from the company said, “we have plenty equipment to get us through the storm.”
Chelsea is expected to see 8-10 inches of snow and could see a little bit of sleet mixing in towards lunch time. Despite the wild weather, Eastern Minerals assures Boston 25 they will be working to get the roads clear.
“We’re ready for this storm and we’ll be ready for whatever March brings us,” the spokesperson said.
