UNH student seriously injured after being struck by car in Durham

(Durham Police Department)

DURHAM, N.H. — A University of New Hampshire (UNH) student was flown to a Maine hospital after he was hit by a car Tuesday night.

Officers responding to the area of Main Street between Depot Road and Sage Way just before 6:30 p.m. found 21-year-old Brian Faxon of Bedford, New Hampshire, being assisted by witnesses after he was struck by a 2015 Buick SE Enclave, according to Durham Police.

He was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and later flown to Maine Medical Center for serious injuries.

Authorities say Faxon was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Buick, 21-year-old Conor Lovett of Franklin, Massachusetts, remained on scene and is cooperating with police, officials say. A preliminary report shows speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

It is unknown if Lovett will face charges.

Both Faxon and Lovett are students at the UNH.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
