Stoughton woman remains in the hospital after being found stuck in the mud for days

EASTON, Mass. — To put it mildly, Barbara Zinaman has endured a stressful week. But it ended in almost surreal joy Monday when Easton Police pulled her daughter, Emma Tetewsky, out of mud she’d apparently been trapped in for days.

Tetewsky, 31, was last seen on June 26th, a Monday. She reportedly had gone out for a walk from her home in Stoughton. Police found her miles away, in Borderland State Park, a place frequented by hikers. In fact, it was two hikers who heard Tetewsky’s calls for help Monday evening at about 6:30. Unable to reach Tetewsky, the hikers called 9-1-1.

“She seemed pretty good,” said Easton firefighter Tony Ioannidis, who helped carry Tetewsky out of the park once police got her up to a trail. “I mean she was dirty. She’d been in the woods for eight days.”

Actually, it’s unknown if Tetewsky was in the woods the entire time she was missing. One thing for certain -- she was dehydrated. Tetewsky was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she is undergoing rehydration, Zinaman said.

Media outlets peppered Easton’s police and fire chiefs for more information on what seemed a near-miraculous story of survival. Neither was available on the July 4th holiday -- but Boston 25 News has learned the chiefs may be planning a press conference in the coming days because there is so much interest in the case -- and so many unanswered questions.

Those include how Tetewsky ended up in Easton, why she veered off the trail and why no one heard cries for help until those two hikers did on Monday?

And, the biggie... how did Tetewsky survive, with no food or water, trapped in mud for days?

Tetewsky’s Mom suggested the most important question is the one that’s already been answered: Will she be found alive?

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
