STOUGHTON, Mass. — Stoughton High School was evacuated Thursday morning after students received Airdropped photos of explosive devices during an assembly, officials said.
All students and staff were moved out of the building and into O’Donnell Middle School around 8:30 a.m., according to the Stoughton Police Department.
Investigators determined that the photo was a generic online image and made no specific reference to Stoughton High School.
A Massachusetts State Police bomb squad, area K9 units, and the Stoughton Fire Department responded to the high school to complete a sweep of the building out of an abundance of caution.
Students and staff were allowed back inside after the building was deemed safe shortly before 11 a.m. They were later dismissed for the day.
In a statement, Stoughton Public School said, “It is important to stress that all students and staff remained safe during this incident. SHS students and staff should be commended for the calm and orderly evacuation to the middle school.”
Food services staff was able to provide lunch for students while they were at the middle school.
The incident remains under investigation by both the Stoughton Police Department and Stoughton Public Schools.
All after school activities will take place as scheduled.
