BROCKTON, Mass. — A stay-in-place order has been issued to staff, faculty, and students at Brockton High School Friday after a student brought a gun earlier that morning.

Brockton Public Schools told Boston 25 News a student approached a staff member to inform them that he had a gun within his possession before voluntarily turning the weapon over without incident. The student was then promptly removed from school by the Brockton School Police.

School officials said out of an abundance of caution, a stay-in-place order was issued so police could conduct a thorough sweep of the school. They added that there is no threat to staff members and students at this time.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
