BOSTON — Massachusetts State Police want drivers to be aware of a potential scam at parking meters. It involves scammers placing fake QR codes disguised as “quick pay” options on parking meters.
People scan the code and enter their credit card information thinking they are paying for the space, but instead, it directs them to a fake website where scammers steal their information.

Several people have reported being scammed in Texas, and while there are no reports of this happening in Massachusetts yet, troopers want drivers to remain vigilant.
State Police encourage people to use coins at meters. If you see any suspicious QR codes, you’re asked to call your local police department.
