State police identify Tyngsborough man killed in Charlton crash

CHARLTON, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on the eastbound side of I-90 in Charlton Saturday.

Troopers responded to reports of a crash in Charlton around 9:10 a.m., where they found a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on the eastbound side of the Mass. Pike, officials said.

After further investigation, it was determined that the tractor-trailer was parked in the breakdown lane on the eastbound side of the Mass. Pike, when the pickup truck veered off the marked travel lanes and entered the breakdown lane before it collided with the tractor-trailer

The driver of the 1989 GMC Sierra pickup, James S. Lucas, 35, of Tyngsborough, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities say. The tractor-trailer driver, a 54-year-old Nevada man, was not injured.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
