‘Staggering quantity of substances’: Man pleads guilty to charges in historic North Shore drug bust

A man charged in connection with an investigation into an overdose death that led to a historic drug bust at a home on the North Shore of Massachusetts where a “staggering quantity of controlled substances” were found entered a guilty plea in federal court in Boston on Wednesday.

Sebastien Bejin, 34, of Lynn, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possess controlled substances with intent to distribute and one count of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute after the seizure of millions of doses of fentanyl-and-methamphetamine-laced pills and powder with a street value estimated to be over $7 million, according to Massachusetts United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy.

In November 2023, searches were conducted at four locations in Lynn that were identified as locations frequented by Bejin, as well as alleged co-conspirators Emilio Garcia and Deiby Felix, following an investigation into a July 2023 overdose in Salem, Levy’s office said.

“The searches resulted in what is believed to be one of the largest single-location seizures of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Massachusetts and the region,” Levy’s office noted in a news release.

The seizure included 20 pounds of pink heart-shaped, fentanyl-laced pills pressed to look like candy, 198 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine, and cutting agents including xylazine, which is used to adulterate controlled substances, according to federal investigators.

“Surveillance during the investigation revealed that Garcia and Bejin would travel to the stash location on a daily basis and then bring quantities of suspected controlled substances from the premises to supply lower-level dealers,” Levy’s office said in the release.

A search of Felix’s home resulted in the seizure of more than 6.6 pounds of pressed pills containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as a clandestine drug laboratory that had been built into a small room in the basement, according to investigators.

Bejin is slated to be sentenced on May 1.
