FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Next week, fallen Massachusetts State Police Trooper Tamar Bucci’s name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
But now, a group of Trooper Tamar’s State Police Academy classmates is organizing an unforgettable tribute that will stretch from Foxboro, Massachusetts to Washington D.C.
“We think of my sister, my family thinks of my sister, every single day,” Trooper Tamar’s sister, Talena Lange told me.
Last March, Trooper Tamar was killed in the line of duty on Route 93 in Stoneham as she was helping a stranded motorist.
Now, more than a year later, a special caravan honoring Trooper Tamar in a unique way will leave Gillette Stadium Thursday morning.
“I know that Tamar is looking down on all of us and so incredibly proud of what we are accomplishing and the way that we are honoring her name,” Talena Lange added.
But there is much more to this tribute
Trooper Tamar built a reputation for helping others.
So, her classmates will travel to DC in a state police caravan.
They will stop in each state along the way, performing a Random Act of Kindness.
“She gave her life helping others. So we’re just trying to do our part on our way down to DC to memorialize her,” Trooper Gerald Harris said.
“It’s going to be a bittersweet journey and I don’t think anything Tamar did was ever easy,” added MSP Trooper Farrah Gray.
And they’ll also honor her commitment to fitness, undertaking a set of burpees in each state.
In fact, the Caravan is called Burpees for Bucci.
“She’d be smiling, very happy to know that in the two years she was a trooper, the lives that she has touched and to know we haven’t forgotten about her,” said MSP Trooper Cynthia Pham.
“It’s an important journey of closure, but also a celebration of who Tamar Bucci was,” said Patrick McNamara, President of the State Police Association of Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts State Police is inviting the public to take part in Trooper Tamar’s caravan by posting pictures and videos of their own Acts of Kindness to #KindnessForBucci and #BurpeesForBucci on social media.
Live Updates of the Caravan along with other social media content will be posted to the social media accounts of the State Police Association of Massachusetts at: @MSPTroopers, the Massachusetts State Police will post @MassStatePolice, and the Tamar Bucci Fund will post @TrooperTamar.
