Snow a gift for last minute holiday shoppers in Dedham

With less than a week to go to Christmas, Friday’s snowstorm was a gift for last-minute shoppers at Dedham’s Legacy Place outdoor shopping center.

“You feel like you could pop in your stores, do your shopping, come out, get the fresh air, see all the lights, the glitter balls. You feel the magic, you feel the energy as you do your shopping,” said Legacy Place’s Natalie Metzgar.

“It adds some type of extra holiday cheer in the air. Makes you want to do something for somebody else, who needs it,” said Julio Martinez of Roslindale.

The unexpected snowfall was something of a windfall to get shoppers motivated.

With less than a week to go to the Big Day, it is no time for amateurs.

“We just had our coffee. We’ve been to one store. We’re just starting out. We’re optimistic,” said Lisa Oteri of Belmont.

“What’s happening with you with your holiday shopping?” Boston 25′s Bob Ward asked Heidi Smith of Needham who was carrying several shopping bags.

“Just some last-minute stuff that I have not had a chance to get online, now it’s too late!” Smith said.

Holiday promotions have boosted sales since before Thanksgiving.

Now in these final days, for many, the hunt is on for stocking stuffers, or for gifts for the hard-to-please.

It could be an expensive day

“I was doing ok before today. Now I’m running up the bills last minute,” said Dave Pucci of Medfield.

“How excited are you for the holidays?” I asked Waltia Funches of Hyde Park.

“This year I’m very excited. My family’s coming over. Me and my best friend are doing Christmas together so, it’s kind of special. Our first time doing it together, this will be a great one for us,” Funches said.
