Shark spotted in water off North Beach Island

NORTH BEACH ISLAND, Mass — A shark has been spotted in the water off North Beach Island.

According to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity app, a shark was spotted about a quarter mile off North Beach Island.

The shark was last seen heading south.

Sharktivity says the only way to avoid sharks is to stay on shore.

The app did not indicate if the beach has been closed to swimming.

Beaches on the Cape are usually closed for an hour following a shark sighting and then reopened if there has been no additional activity reported.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
