SALEM, Mass — The Witch City beat records last weekend as Halloween tourists swamped the area.
The City of Salem welcomed 921,100 visitors in October, an 8% increase over 2021, and 36% increase in October 2019, according to Destination Salem.
10 to 15 percent of tourists come from other countries, Kate Fox who is the Executive Director for Destination Salem told Boston 25.
On Friday, October 28, 38,500 tourists roamed the streets, on Saturday, the number more than doubled with 82,100 downtown visitors, and on Sunday, October 30, 70,700 tourists enjoyed the spooky festivities.
The release of Hocus Pocus 2 which is based in Salem is also caused a renewed interest in the Witch City and is drawing a lot more people to visit.
Halloween itself, Salem kept up with their around average number of 54,700 visitors for the holiday.
