Sagamore Bridge reopens after truck crushes car, delays continue

SAGAMORE, Mass. — Traffic backed up heading on and off Cape Cod Wednesday afternoon after a car was nearly crushed under a tractor-trailer on the Sagamore Bridge.

Massachusetts State Police tweeted about the crash on Route 6 eastbound and said the car was leaking gas.

The bridge was closed while tow trucks lifted the truck off the car. Just before 4 p.m., the bridge was reopened to traffic but drivers should expect delays.

The crash involved a Mercury Marquis and a Mack tractor-trailer owned by a Taunton landscaping company, according to police.

The Mercury driver, an 86-year-old Quincy man, was transported to Beth Israel-Plymouth with suspected minor injuries. The truck driver, a 53-year-old Taunton man, not injured.
