CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — An animal welfare group is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the conviction of whoever killed a cat found with its legs bound with masking tape and suffering from 11 BB gun wounds.
The MSPCA said Monday the animal was found last Thursday under a car by Cambridge animal control responding to a report of a crying cat.
By the time animal control arrived at the scene, the young male cat had already died.
The cat, named Gosha, had disappeared from outside its owners’ home in Cambridge on May 4.
The MSPCA now believes what happened to Gosha may not have been an isolated incident. Officials say there are similarities between the Gosha case and what happened on March 4 to another cat from the same neighborhood in East Cambridge, as well as a third cat who went missing and was then returned suffering from some kind of burn.
The MSPCA says postmortem testing showed Gosha suffered chemical or thermal burns in addition to the BB gunshot wounds.
The second cat was let outside by her owner at 11:30 p.m. on March 3 and returned home at 8:30 a.m. the following day suffering from multiple BB gunshot wounds across her left side. The cat survived and is back home with her family.
The third cat had been wearing an ID collar but officials say the collar was missing when she returned home.
Gosha was also wearing a collar the day he disappeared but his was also missing when he was discovered on May 6.
Anyone with information is asked to call the MSPCA or Cambridge police.
