BOSTON — *A previous version of this article inaccurately stated that the renovation was being delayed. It has since been corrected.
Boston’s White Stadium renovation at Franklin Park is staying on track for March, according to the latest ruling by a superior court judge.
The Boston Herald reported the judge gave them more time to gather evidence ahead of the March trial.
This comes as the project cost increased to 200 million dollars, more than double the initial estimate that Boston Unity Soccer Partners provided in 2023.
Taxpayers are now expected to pay more than 90 million dollars, up from $50 million that was initially proposed.
“The judge’s ruling to firmly uphold the March trial date is a significant win against the Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s efforts to derail the revitalization of White Stadium,” said BOS Nation FC. “We remain confident that there is no legal foundation for this case, and it is clear that the plaintiff’s sole intent is to employ delay tactics. We look forward to resolving this frivolous lawsuit in March.”According to the Herald, BOS Nation Football Club, which won an expansion bid in September 2023 to join the National Women’s Soccer League, is expected to take the pitch at White Stadium for the 2026 season.
The trial date stays on track for March.
Built in 1945, White Stadium, located in the Playstead section of Franklin Park, seats 10,000 people and is run and used by Boston Public School athletics for sporting events, primarily track and football, according to the Franklin Park Coalition website.
